PCI Feeding Scale Workshop

Feeding provides a situation where a parent interacts with an infantSiobhan and Lilly mealtime around 200 times a month, potentially reinforcing one another and building their relationship. If the feeding interaction doesn’t go well the result may be repeated failures in relationship building. On the other hand, if the interactions go well, they set the child on a path towards secure attachment, resilience, and optimal social, emotional and cognitive development. Ref. NCAST.
This three-day workshop uses extensive NCAST video sequences of feeding situations to familiarise participants with specific characteristics that indicate the quality of the parent-child interaction.

Expected outcomes
From this workshop, participants will be able to
  • Describe behaviours the caregiver and child bring to the interaction and the contingency of their responses to one another
  • Easily identify strengths as well as areas that may need improvement
  • Assess concerns early in the caregiver-child communication/interactive pattern at a point when intervention will be most effective
  • Be able to plan the most direct and effective ways to help parents with their infants and young children
  • Have potentially gained 85% reliability in rating parent-child feeding interactions. Final reliability scales completed on Day 3 are sent to NCAST, USA, for assessment.
